ABORTION MALPRACTICE: The Book

by David C. Reardon, Ph.D.

Last summer I was asked to write an introductory manual for attorneys on abortion malpractice. I have long dreamt of writing exactly such a book, so it didn't take any arm twisting to convince me to jump right into it.

The completed manual covers:

    - The professional and legal standards of care which are routinely violated by abortionists, especially the             requirement to obtain truly free and informed consent from patients;
    - Known high risk factors which place clients at higher risk of sustaining injuries, but for which clients are rarely screened;

    - Documentation on physical and psychological injuries associated with abortion;

    - Alternative legal strategies for recovery of damages in states hostile to medical malpractice action.

    - Checklists for evaluating injuries and causes of damage;

    - and (of course) much more!

Life Dynamics, a pro-life group spearheading education efforts for attorneys interested in abortion malpractice, has already distributed over 10,000 copies of this manual. In addition, on March 4th and 5th, Life Dynamics sponsored a conference for attorneys interested in representing plaintiffs in abortion malpractice. I was one of sixteen presenters at this very successful event. Attendance at this conference sold out with 120 participants. Future conferences are expected.

As you probably already know, abortion malpractice is one of several exciting applications for our post-abortion research. The abortion industry is only profitable because merely a small fraction of the women they injure ever bring suit, much less receive fair compensation. When suits are brought, the cases often fail because the abortionists and their researchers successfully argue that the link between abortion and the claimed injuries is not sufficiently established. This is especially true with regard to recovery for emotional and psychological injuries.

This is one reason why post-abortion research is so important. Without valid statistical evidence supporting a link between abortion and the claimed injuries, women will continue to be denied just compensation. We're excited that we are helping to provide this crucial evidence and helping to educate the attorneys who handle abortion malpractice cases.
